Pau’an

Pau’ans
were carnivorous, eating only meat. They also rode tamed varactyls. Many
creation myths exist over their origin of the Pau’ans, with some claiming that
Pau’ans and Utai were once the same species. Others claim that Pau’ans
originally lived on the planet’s surface, but eventually severe winds forced
them underground.
The
face of the Pau’ans was inspired by African-Tribal masks. During the production
of “Revenge of the Sith” they were originally intended to represent the
occupants of planet Mustafar. Utapau was the original name for planet Tatooine
in scripts for “A New Hope” and later the original name Naboo in early drafts
of “The Phantom Menace”.
Utai

The
Utai are not as well-known among Star Wars fans compared to their Pau’an
counterparts. They only had a tiny amount of screen time in “Revenge of the
Sith”. However, there was an Utai action figure released in 2009 as part
of the “Legacy Collection”.
Mustafarian

It
is notable that Mustafarians look similar to another insectoid species in the
Star Wars galaxy (the Kubaz). They have been a similar facial shape and have
been depicted wearing similar outfits- which suggests that they could be
related. Though Mustafarians are only briefly glimpsed in “Revenge of the
Sith”, a Mustafarian action figure was released in 2005.
Kaleesh

The
only Kaleesh to be featured in a “Star Wars” film was General Grievous, but
(like Vader) he was more machine than organic. Much of the Kaleesh mythology in
the Expanded Universe was retconned from earlier material. For example Sk’ar, a
villian from a 1981 comic, was later identified as a Kaleesh in 2007
StarWars.com article. Also, the pirate Sidon Ithano, who appears in “The Force
Awakens” wears a red helmet that is said to be of Kaleesh origin.
Muun

During
the Clone Wars the Banking Clan were founding members of the The Confederacy of
Independent Systems and Chairman San Hill was on the Separatist Council.
The Muun were notably involved in the Battle of Muunilinst which resulted
in the arrest of San Hill.
Though
the CGI character San Hill was the only Muun featured in the Star Wars films,
there was another Muun important to the mythology of the prequels. Darth
Plagueis, the Sith Lord that was master to Palpatine, was portrayed as a Muun
in the Old Expanded Universe- specifically in the book “Darth Plagueis” by
James Luceno.
Skakoan

One
notable Skokoan was Wat Tambor, the foreman of the Techno Union. Tambor was a
founding member of the Separatist council. Though Wat Tambor is a biological
being and not a droid, Star Wars sound designer Ben Burtt has called Tambor his
“favorite robot”.
Koorivar

The
Koorivar could be identified by a prominent spiraling horn located on the top
of their heads. A Koorivar senator named Passel Argente was head of the
Corporate Alliance and was a founding member of the Separatist council. Though
Senator Argente and the Kooriva government joined the Separatists, many
Koorivar remained loyal to the Republic and moved to Antar 4 (the Gotal
homeworld).
Gossam

Prior
to the Clone Wars a female Gossam named Shu Mai had become president of the
guild. Like many females of her species Shu Mai wore her hair in a curved horn
on the back of her head. Near the end of the Clone Wars, Shu Mai was killed by
Darth Vader on planet Mustafarr along with the rest of the Separatist Council.
Chagrian

Mas
Amedda was a Chagrian politician who was the Vice Chair of the galactic senate
under Chancellor Valorum and Chancellor Palpatine. Amedda was one of
Palpatine’s most trusted allies, even when the Galactic Empire sought to purge
non-humans from their ranks. After Palpatine’s death however, Amedda lost
standing in the Empire. After the Battle of Jakku, Amedda signed Galactic
Concordance with the New Republic which formally ended the war between the
Empire and Rebellion.
