The following species first appeared in the "Star Wars Holiday Special". None of these are currently canon, but some of these species frequented the Old Expanded Universe. Happy reading Star Wars fans!
Cathar
The cat-like species called
the Cathar thrived on the savannas of their homeworld. Like the Wookiees they
carved their homes from giant trees. On the trunks of these trees were carvings
of their greatest warriors. The Cathar race was quick and powerful. They
sometimes carried weapons, but also used natural retractable claws to hunt and
fight. Their bodies also healed quickly from injury.
Though fierce, Cathar were
also loyal to their friends. They had high moral codes. Cathar could often be
described as passionate especially in their mating rituals. The Cathar mated
for life and if their loved one should die they would never enter into another
relationship.
Despite their fierceness the
Cathar race were often enslaved. They were first conquered by the Mandolorians
and later by the Sith Empire. The male Cathar were seen to be too
uncontrollable for slavery and were often killed outright. As a result, the
Cathar faced near extinction.
A Cathar named Myhr Rho
appeared in the “Star Wars Holiday Special” though originally he was only known
as “Lion Man”. The Cathar species were featured in the 1994 comic series “Tales
of the Jedi” and eventually “Lion Man” was retconned with the name Mhyr Rho
along with the Cathar species name.
Hamadryas
There isn’t much known about
the green-skinned ape-like Hamadryas species. They are rumored to come from a
planet called Papio. Some say that they have no need to blink their eyes. They
were sometimes known to breed with humans.
Cebann Veekan was the
Hamadryas that appeared in the “Star Wars Holiday Special”. The character was
known as “Baboon Man” on set. The alien was one of two species that was created
using heavy make-up (the other being the “Lion Man”). This make-up took two and
a half hours to apply. The species is named for the Hamadryas baboon.
Dashade
The Dashade were a large species that specialized at going unnoticed. Despite their immense size, Dashade were not easily detected by life-form sensors because they could dissipate their body heat. In addition Dashade had natural resistance to powers of The Force.
The Dashade evolved on planet Urkupp but it was destroyed by a Super Nova as a
result of the Great Sith War. Eventually the Dashade population began to
recover. Dashade were often employed as assassins and mercenaries.
Ket Maliss was the Dashade featured in the “Star Wars Holiday Special”. Though some sources cite that Ket appeared in “A New Hope”, the costume was built new for the Holiday Special.

Tintinna
On planet Rinn, sentient
rodents known as Tintinna made their homes in underground burrows which they
dug themselves. Though they may seem like any mindless rodent at first glance,
if we look closer these beings are actually quite intelligent. The Tintinna
developed farming, trading, and even steam power.
In the wider galaxy these
creatures were sometimes called T'iin-T'iin or Tin-Tin Dwarves. Though most
Tintinna lived their whole lives on Rinn, some did venture out into the wider
galaxy. Some in the galaxy mistook Tintinna for another rodent species- Ranats.
Rungs was the Tintinna that appeared in the “Star Wars Holiday Special”. The puppet was a repurposed prop from the 1976 movie, “The Food of the Gods”

Y'bith
Long ago on Clak’dor VII
there was a civil war between the Bith capital city Weogar and the domed city
of Nozho. The war ended with a biological attack on Nozho creating mutations in
the flora, fauna, and the Bith themselves. Surviving Bith mutated and were
labelled Y’bith (Ghost Bith) to those in the captial. These mutated Ghost Bith
eventually fled to Clak’dor IV and established the city of New Nozho.
Among their mutated traits
Y’bith had sensitive orange skin and poor eyesight. Their hands and feet were
stronger than the Bith, their bones thicker. Chemical imbalances caused the Y’bith
to be easily aggravated. They were prone to ill temper and violence.
At first the galaxy at large
did not embrace these volatile creatures. Their Bith cousins carried a harsh
prejudice towards the new subspecies. Yet in time, the Y’bith worked hard to
establish New Nozho as an important trading center.
Graven R'ube is the Y’bith
that appeared in the “Star Wars Holiday Special”. The costume was created by
modifying one of the Bith costumes seen in “A New Hope”. Graven R’ube is an
anagram of author Evan Burger, who create the Y’bith backstory as part of his
work on the blog “Star Wars Hyperspace”.
M'shento'su'Nikto
M’Shento’su’Nikto (or
Southern Nikto) were one of the five Nikto subspecies native to planet Kintan.
Like many of the Nikto subspecies the Southern Nikto lacked nostrils. In lieu
of a nostrils the Southern Nikto relied on several breathing tubes that ran up
their necks and over their heads. These breathing tubes were larger and more
numerous compared to their Red Nikto cousins. The Southern Nikto also differed
from the other Nikto subspecies in the fact that they lacked horns. Southern
Nikto had skin color in shades of yellow and orange.
Kelbo was the
M’Shento’su’Nikto that appeared in the “Star Wars Holiday Special”. The five
subspecies of Nikto was first revealed in the 1995 roleplaying book “Galaxy
Guide 12: Aliens — Enemies and Allies”.
Amorphiian
Planet Amorphiia was located
on the mid-rim and was home to a curious species. The Amorphiians looked
identical to humans but were actually androids created during an unspecified
time of Galactic history. Whoever created the Amorphiians were long gone once
their motor functions started to break down and become erratic. Frequent
glitches would cause their motors to speed up, slow down or spasm.
Harvey Korman portrayed
Dromboid, the Amorphiian that appeared in the “Star Wars Holiday Special”.
Dromboid was a Transmitter salesman by trade. Korman also portrayed Chef
Gormaanda and Krelman in the special. The name of the Amirphiian species appears
in the fourth draft of the “Holiday Special” script as well as the 2008
sourcebook “The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia”.
Unkown
Krelman was a strange being
who frequented “Chalmun's Cantina” in the Mos Eisley Spaceport and grew
infatuated with Ackmena, the nighttime bartender. Krelman was humanoid, but not
human. His species is unknown, but has the unique ability to consume liquids
from atop of their crater-shaped heads.
Krelman was portrayed by
comedian Harvey Korman who was famous for his appearances on the “The Carol
Burnett Show”. Korman also portrayed Chef Gormaanda and Dromboid. The character
Krelman and his head-drinking abilities was criticized by many including the
article "I Have a Bad Feeling About This!" from Star Wars Insider
106. Krelman was also ranked #9 on StarWars.com’s "20 Terrifying Star Wars
Moments" in 2007.
